METRO MANILA – Nakapagpadala na ng nasa 65 Million doses ng libreng COVID-19 vaccines ang Covax facility ng World Health Organization (WHO) sa nasa 124 na bansa, kasama na ang Pilipinas

Ngunit ayon kay WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, bumagal ito dahil sa pagkaantala ng pagdating ng supply ng bakuna sa Covax.

Apektado ng second wave ng COVID-19 infections sa India ang suplay ng bakuna.

Nasa India ang Serum Institute kung saan nanggagaling ang bulto ng mga bakuna na isinusupply sa Covax facility.

Kaya naman nanawagan ang who sa mga vaccine manufacturers na mai-deliver ng mas maaga ang mga ipinangakong COVID-19 vaccines para sa Covax.

Gaya na lamang ng American Pharmaceutical Company na Moderna na may pangakong 500-M doses ng bakuna ngunit karamihan ay sa 2022 pa idedeliver

“While we appreciate the work of Astrazeneca, which has been steadily increasing the speed and volume of its deliveries, we need other manufacturers to follow suit. Pfizer has committed to providing 40 million doses of vaccines with Covax this year, but the majority of these would be in the second half of 2021. We need doses right now and i call on them to bring forward deliveries as soon as possible.” ani WHO Director-General,Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Binigyang diin ng WHO na hindi matatapos ang problema sa COVID-19 pandemic kung mayroong mga bansang mapag-iiwanan sa vaccination.

“Only by working through Covax can we quickly get vaccines to those health workers that have been on the frontlines of this pandemic for more than a year. We need to collectively set ambitious goals to at least vaccinate the world’s adult population as quickly as possible.No one is safe until we’re all safe.” ani WHO Director-General,Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Samantala, sa isang tweet, sinabi ni United States President Joe Biden na magdo-donate ito ng 80-M doses ng COVID-19 vaccines sa iba’t ibang bansa.
