Manila, Philippines – Tiwala si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na malapit ng masugpo ang violent extremism sa bansa dahil sa patuloy na pagtugis ng militar sa grupong Abu Sayyaf na isang isis-inspired terrorist group.
Ayon kay pangulong Duterte hindi na muling makapapanaig isis saan mang dako ng Pilipinas. Matatandaang nakubkob ng limang buwan ng Islamic-state linked militants ang Marawi City noong taong 2017, dahilan upang masalanta ang siyudad.
Ginawa ng punong ehekutibo ang pahayag nang dumalaw ito sa Jolo, Sulu kaalinsabay ng paggunita sa araw ng kagitingan.

Your efforts have brought us even closer to our ultimate objective of totally crushing the violent extremism at its roots. With this, i can confidently declare that isis will never gain foothold anywhere in the Philippines.” ani Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte
Patuloy namang tiniyak ng punong ehekutibo ang ayuda ng pamahalaan para sa mga sundalo. Ipagpapatuloy din sa ilalim ng kaniyang administrasyon ang modernisasyon ng hukbong sandatahan ng Pilipinas.

I will see to it that you will have funds when you retire and that your school -ah your children and their schooling will be assured even if we are no longer there either by natural or by any other means of saying goodbye to this world. Huwag kayong ma-ano, sagot i have your back covered.” ani Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte
Bukod dito, nagpahiwatig din si pangulong Duterte na muli siyang magtatalaga ng mga dating military official sa pwesto. Itinanggi naman ng pangulo na pinalalakas niya ang sarili sa militar.
“Hindi ako sabihin na pinapalakas ko ang sarili ko sa military because i do not need that. The people elected me. But ako i have a special fondness for the military for being fundamentally honest at industrious. Ano lang ako sa bureaucracy because i have met several failures pati hindi mo mautusan nang matino. Puro corruption. Kaya as you would see, ‘yung unang the next few officials coming in would be military guys.” ani Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte
