METRO MANILA – Ikinatuwa ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ang pag-apruba ng kongreso sa Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Bill upang mas mapalakas ang fire prevention, emergency medical at rescue services sa bansa.
“We thank the Senate and House leadership for ratifying the bicameral conference report on the BFP Modernization Bill.” ani DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año.
Sa inaprubahang reconciled version ng Senate Bill (SB) No. 1832 at House Bill (HB) No. 7406, nakasaad dito ang pagsasagawa ng modernization program sa ahensya at ang authorization sa ilang BFP Security and Protection Unit (SPU) sa bawat lungsod at munisipalidad na magdala ng baril.
“Not all BFP personnel will be authorized to carry firearms but only around 2,000 personnel who will be assigned under the proposed BFP Security and Protection Unit (SPU) in each city and municipality. We will see to it that this provision will not be abused,” ani DILG Secretary Año.
Samantala,ilan sa gagawing modernization sa BFP ay ang pagkakaroon ng modern firefighting equipment, training at hiring ng karagdagang mga BFP personnel , at ang pagpapatayo ng mas maraming fire stations sa buong bansa.
Sa kasalukuyan, ang BFP ay mayroong lamang 30,811 personnel at 3,046 firetrucks upang maglingkod sa 110.54 milyong populasyon ngayong 2021.
“Napakalaki ang kakulangan ng bilang ng ating mga bumbero, fire trucks at kagamitan ngunit sinisikap pa rin nilang makaresponde sa sunog at iba pang sakuna sa loob lamang ng pitong minuto,” Dagdag ni Año
