Isang major economic reform agenda ang naisabatas tatlong buwan bago bumaba sa pwesto si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Nilagdaan ng Pangulo ang amendments sa public service act. Layon nitong makapanghikayat ng mas maraming global investors sa pamamagitan pagluluwag sa foreign equity restrictions. Ibig sabihin, magbibigay daan ito sa 100 percent foreign ownership ng ilang sektor sa ekonomiya tulad ng telecommunication companies, airlines at railyways.
Hindi naman nito sakop ang transmission at distribusyon ng electricity, water pipeline, sewerage, seaports, petroleum pipeline at public utility vehicles.
“I believe that with the easing of foreign equity restrictions will attack more global investors, modernize several sectors of public service and improve the delivery of essential services,” pahayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Naniniwala ang Punong Ehekutibo, magbibigay daan ito sa pagbangon ng ekonomiya ng Pilipinas mula sa pandemiya. Makatutulong din aniya ito sa mga mamamayan.
“Indeed, the enactment of this amended law, as well as the amended foreign investments act, shall help stimulate the economy, especially for local businesses. It is also expected to generate more jobs for Filipinos, improve basic services for Filipino consumers, and allow for the exchange of skills and technology with the country’s foreign partners,” dagdag ng Pangulo.
