Chilean firefighters are still fighting hard against the raging forest fires which have spread to affect about 480,000 hectares.

Although firefighters have put out at least 60 ground fires, there are around 100 reported fires still raging on, after almost two weeks into firefighting.

The fires have claimed the lives of at least 11 people including some firefighters and police officers.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet says the origin of the forest fires remains unknown. She adds a deliberate intent cannot be ruled out.
